Privacy at Bref.
Bref creates personal news podcasts and answers questions about their stories. This page explains the information used to provide that service.
Information we use
- Your account name, verified messaging identity and, if you use email sign-in, your contact email. Messaging signup does not require an email.
- Your saved interests, research monitor, podcast preferences and instructions, including a name you choose for your spoken welcome.
- News and source records, episode scripts, private podcast audio and listening information.
- If you connect WhatsApp: your linked WhatsApp sender identifier, consent and connection settings, messages you send, voice-note transcripts, answers and reply audio, and delivery times and statuses.
Voice notes sent to Bref are received and transcribed so the application can answer your question. Your messages and transcripts may contain personal information you choose to share.
How information is used
Bref uses this information to research your interests, produce and store your episodes, deliver them through your selected channel, answer follow-up questions using episode sources, authenticate your account and investigate service or delivery failures.
The operations dashboard is restricted through Cloudflare Access and an operator email allowlist. Your settings and episode playback require a browser sign-in through a one-time link from your connected chat or a browser approval code; your browser session has a two-hour expiry. Episode audio, reply audio and episode covers are stored in private Cloudflare R2. When delivering a voice note or cover, Bref uploads a media copy to Meta for WhatsApp delivery.
Services involved
- Cloudflare hosts the application, account and service data, private audio, message processing and AI writing and question-answering.
- Exa receives research interests and monitor instructions to find relevant news.
- ElevenLabs provides speech generation and voice-note transcription. Text to be spoken and voice notes to be transcribed are processed by that service.
- Meta / WhatsApp processes messages, media and delivery information for connected WhatsApp conversations.
- PostHog EU Cloud receives product usage events and service measurements, including page visits, listening progress, account onboarding, messaging delivery status, and provider timings and usage counts. Cloudflare also stores these measurements.
These services process the information needed for their role and are subject to their own terms and data practices. This notice does not make a promise that providers retain no data.
Product analytics choices
Browser analytics use a random device identifier in local storage and a session identifier in session storage. When you sign in, usage can be linked to a hashed account identifier. Signing out resets the browser identifiers. Analytics events exclude names, email addresses, phone numbers, message text, transcripts, podcast instructions, authentication tokens and URL query strings. Provider measurements include counts, model names, timings and outcomes, rather than the content sent to or returned by providers. IP and location enrichment are disabled in PostHog.
Browser analytics respect Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. You can turn off browser analytics on this device or turn them back on. Your choice is stored on this device; turning analytics off removes its analytics identifiers. Server records of account operations, production and delivery continue so Bref can measure service reliability.
Delivery choices and stored information
Daily WhatsApp delivery requires your explicit agreement after reviewing your interests and preferences. You can pause daily delivery in Bref, send STOP in WhatsApp or disconnect delivery. You can turn episode covers off in settings or send IMAGES OFF. Disconnecting stops future delivery; the verified account identity remains so you can return to your saved preferences.
Pausing or disconnecting does not erase existing episodes, questions, transcripts or delivery records. Bref stores service information as needed to operate the product until the account owner requests deletion. Contact the operator to request access, correction or deletion; an identity check may be needed to protect your account.
